You make so many good points, that I don't know where to start agreeing. I think I most enjoyed your points about how conservative leaders (1) have "branded" socialism as evil (Nike and Coke should be jealous) and (2) have convinced the American public that we all need business to get all good things done.
Somehow, we are expected to believe today that we can always trust powerful business owners to do the right thing -- like paying a living wage and not polluting -- but that we can never trust those whose very job it is to serve and protect the public from unbridled capitalism.
If government is not meant to be a force to protect the masses from the extremely powerful -- and to create powerful public goods like roads, schools, and libraries -- why do we have it at all?
