This article is correct psychologically as well as historically. And the "multi-" rather than "mixed" concept applies to religion and national identity, too. People who embrace and fully identify with all of the groups to whom they are connected have higher well-being. Jeanne Phinney's social psychological research shows that embracing multiple identities is good for the soul.
