We don't need five autonomous regions. We could more effectivley get a friendly divorce that created only two United States governments -- a red one and a blue one. And we could do it county by county rather than region by region. The old idea that nations must be composed of places that can be drawn with a single border is old fashioned. Let Atlanta, New York, and LA become part of blue America and let most of the rural areas -- whether in Alabama or California become part of red America.
